And so we find ourselves here, floating adrift in the weird period of time between Christmas and New Year’s. Do I know what day it is? No. Do I care? Also no. Calories still don’t count, the kids don’t always make it out of pajamas before lunch, and my default position is on the couch under a blanket.

I am so thankful to my husband’s employer for the extended holiday and that he’s able to spend the extra time with us! The kids so enjoy having him around all day! Because Omicron is surging in our area, we’re staying put for the most part. Even when my husband goes “back to work,” it’ll mostly be from down the hall in his home office. I was thankful to have scored some Binax tests while they were in stock so that we could safely see some family over the holiday. Is COVID rearing its ugly head (again) where you are? I feel like I know more people getting ill now than ever before!
We ended up having my parents over on Christmas Eve. I cooked dinner and we ate together while on a FaceTime with my in-laws in Wisconsin. My sister- and brother-in-law were over with our niece and it was really nice to share a meal “together,” even if it was virtually.
After dinner, we exchanged presents with my parents and put the (over-stimulated, over-tired) kids to bed. Josh and I got to play Santa and put all the presents out and stuff the stockings. I was especially excited to eat the cookies LOL! We made a great Christmas punch with cranberry ginger ale, cranberry juice, and champagne and sipped on that throughout the night.
Christmas morning, we FaceTimed my in-laws again to open presents as a family. We adults brought back the Christmas punch and rebranded it as Christmas morning mimosas LOL! The kids are still too young to fully grasp the holiday spirit but Jack enjoyed unwrapping gifts this year! Grace loved her baby doll and Jack is really into his train set and cutting fruit.
Josh got me a beautiful necklace I have yet to take off, and he loved the date of the month folder I put together for him and the vegetable garden seeds!
Most important to me was the time we all spent together. If there’s anything these past years have taught me, it’s to appreciate the time with loved ones that we have now. I am so thankful for my family, for our good health, and love we share and the home we fill it with.
I hope you had a great day filled with love and family as well.
