When the temperatures drop and the heat comes on, I start to notice dry skin, static-y hair, and stuffed noses. To combat the winter dryness, I rely on a humidifier. But did you know that using the wrong humidifier can actually make you sicker? I have found the best humidifier and I can’t wait to share it (and a coupon code) with you!

Why Your Family Needs Humidifiers:
My son Jack was born prematurely. When he was discharged from the NICU, his care team recommended we use a high-quality humidifier in his nursery. When we had Grace, we were sure to add a humidifier to her nursery as well. Babies are coming into the world from a wet environment and they can be extra susceptible to dryness-related discomforts! After learning about the benefits of humidified air, we added one in each bedroom, including our guest room.
Those benefits include:
- Humidified air keeps the breathing passages moist which allows for easier, more comfortable breathing
- Prevents dry skin, including eczema and chapped lips
- Can help alleviate snoring and sleep apnea
- Ward off dryness-related annoyances like bloody noses, sore throat, and dry eyes
- Loosens mucus in stuffed-up noses
- Prevents transmission of viruses like COVID and the flu (source)
- Good for house plants and hardwood floors
But which humidifier is the best choice for your home? There are so many to choose from! Jack’s NICU care team only had one recommendation to guide us: the best humidifier is one that is easy to keep clean.
The Best Humidifier for Your Family:
I didn’t realize the importance of keeping a clean humidifier until last March when Josh and I developed upper respiratory symptoms. It was the beginning of the pandemic, and we hadn’t been outside our home. We were baffled as to how we could have gotten sick! We were using our humidifier every night to help with our symptoms but we were just getting sicker! It wasn’t until I thought to wipe it out that I learned that the inside of our black plastic humidifier was covered in goop. The humidifier was making us sick!
After that, I knew I had to find a better way!
The moment I saw the Carepod One, I knew I had to have it.
First of all, the Carepod One only has three parts to take apart and clean. The water reservoir is a stainless steel drum that can be sterilized to kill 99.99% of germs, and the oscillator can be removed completely and washed like a normal dish. There aren’t any nooks and crannies to grow mold or bacteria, and there aren’t any extras like disposable filters to keep track of.
It is by FAR the most aestetically-pleasing humidifier I’ve ever seen and it even feels solid and high-quality in your hands. I love that it’s stainless steel without being too heavy, and it’s easy to fill and set up. The Carepod One has three speeds and a shut-off timer; otherwise the drum holds more than enough water to last all day or night.
The Carepod One has quickly replaced all our other humidifiers and is the only one I will trust!

Great timing! I already bought a small one, but I need to buy one for my son! This Carepod seems to be perfect. I love that it is easy to wash. The one I got is not easy to clean. Great review. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve always wondered about the best kind, too. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we are moist most of the time, so a humidifier isn’t usually needed, but I purchased one almost 2 years ago at the start of the pandemic to have just in case. We haven’t gotten sick and it sits in it’s box. LOL. I will take the time to see what I have and consider replacing it…. just in case.

Never thought about the need for a humidifier for the dry heat generated during the winter when we lock ourselves inside. I do know that I have experienced many of the systems you listed. I think I will look into this more and let the hubby know all about the benefits of a humidifier. Thanks for sharing.

I never thought of using a humidifier for myself. I live alone but winters are really dry here. Thanks for the information.

Wow I haven’t heard of this humidifier before. We’ve always used Crane humidifiers but I usually have to purchase a new one every few years… I think I’ve purchased more than 10 in the last decade because I have one in each kid’s room! LOL! I’m looking forward to checking out the Carepod One!

Thank you for the info! As we heat solely with wood, our indoor environment is extra dry. I’m always on the lookout for a good option!

We need a humidifier for our office…did you know a 3d printer can’t work well in a dry environment either? We’ve been moving out one back and forth

I agree, Danielle!
